Subject: A must for fans of The Horseflies
This is an absolutely classic performance at an absolutely classic (or special, anyway) venue.

This is right in the middle of their initial transformation from a 4 piece fiddle band into the unique ensemble they have become today. In some ways they are still working out the kinks (the keyboards seem a bit lost on some of the low down fiddle tunes), but hearing them evolve into something new and unique is very exciting

It is also at a place where the excitement, insanity, and enthusiasm would pull the most from a band. The Horseflies clearly loved playing at the Rooney Fest, as this recording, and all the other Rooney '89 recordings will make clear (I think most bands, who could stand the mud and the dust felt the same way).

All of these recordings have something great to offer, but if you had to pick just one, this one would probably be the best choice. This is the Sunday performance. Not quite as insane as the late Friday set perhaps, but close, and better overall (but hey, don't take my word for it, grab 'em all and decide for yourself). The Sunday sets were for the true blue, hardcore, Rooney lovers. Not necessarily the hardest partyers, they were all slinking home with their livers between their legs by Sunday, but the ones that truly loved the music and the dancing. You can feel the energy and emotion from the band and the audience in this set.

The sound quality is not great, but not so bad for this sort of thing. Now if only someone could get that Red Hots set they mention at the end...

(PS - I think the sound check should be subtitled "dogs are sycophants")
